CAS Requirements

Every student enrolled in the IB Diploma Programme (DP) is required to complete a CAS Portfolio where they record their CAS experiences and CAS Project

The CAS experiences must meet at least one (or more) of the seven learning outcomes. The CAS experiences must also be in one of the three CAS strands: creativity, activity and/or service.

There are three parts to every CAS experience. You must get approval for the experience (via Managebac, record reflections/evidence, and have an identified supervisor review your experience.

Every student must also complete a CAS project. The CAS project must be at least one month in duration (from planning to execution to reflection).

CAS must also be ongoing and show a habit of service over 18 months, the time they are in the Diploma Programme.
CAS Strands
Creativity -- exploring and extending ideas leading to an original or interpretive product or performance

Activity --

Where do I keep my CAS Portfolio?

You will keep your CAS Portfolio in Managebac.

Have questions about Managebac or need to sign up for an account? See the Managebac section of our website for assistance.

When can I start recording CAS?

You can start recording CAS experiences the June prior to your starting Year 1 (11th grade) of the Diploma Programme. You have until April/May of Year 2 (12th grade) to meet all requirements. Be sure to see your cohort's information for specific dates.

What counts as a CAS experience?

A CAS experience is a specific event where you engage with one or more of the three CAS strands.

A CAS experience must:
1. Fit within one or more of the CAS strands (Creativity, Activity and/or Service)
2. Be based on personal interest, skill, talent or opportunity for growth
3. provide opportunities to develop the attributes of the IB learner profile

There are many different things that can qualify as a CAS experience; it is up to you to tailor your experiences to fit your needs and interests.

Can I complete a CAS experience/project with someone else?

Yes! We encourage you to practice and hone your collaboration skills by working with others.

Do note, however, that you will need to record your own CAS experiences in Managebac and they should look different than those you work with. Your reflections should differ from your peers because not everyone will have the same thoughts and reactions to what happens. you
