Myers Park High School Middle Years Program (MYP)(9th-10th) :Service As Action
What is Service As Action (SA)?
Service as Action (SA) is a requirement for the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP). The IB believes that action (learning by doing and experiencing) is key to the learning process and that through SA you'll become more confident, self-directed learners. SA also assists you in developing personal understandings, sense of self, and your role and responsibilities in your communities.
The 2 components of SA, are characterized as follows:
Service – an unpaid and voluntary exchange
Action – physical activity leading to a healthy lifestyle
Think of SA as an opportunity for students to seek and engage in a cause that is meaningful to them.
Through continued service and commitment, students fulfill their SA requirement but more importantly, they grow personally. The overall experience not only adds another important element to their college applications, it may be the source of inspiration for their MYP Personal Project, DP Extended Essay, college essays and possibly much more.
MYP SA 7 Learning Outcomes
The Service as Action (SA) requirement for IB MYP focuses on students completing 7 Learning Outcomes. The 7 Learning Outcomes are closely associated with the IB Learner Profile attributes and Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills.
