What classes do I need to sign up for?
Students enroll in 8 courses over the course of the academic year. Some courses are taught on what we refer to as the 4x4 schedule where classes meet everyday for the duration of the semester and others are taught on the A/B day schedule where classes meet every other day for the length of the academic year. In the MYP, students need to take courses in 7 of the subject areas required by the IB. Some subject areas have required courses and others have options for students to choose their choice of class. In general, students need to have completed the third level of a world language and the third level of math in order to be eligible to enter the IB Diploma Programme. The IB Coordinator will work with you to ensure that you are on track to meet those requirements at the end of your 10th grade year. Please refer to the Class 2025 9th & 10th Grade Coursework Guide document at the right (and linked below) to see a checklist for the courses required for the IB MYP at MPHS. |

Do I need to take an arts class as the 6th subject?
The arts in this case means elective. Students can enroll in a course that they choose as their elective. In the MYP this may mean taking another course to meet the requirements. (Example: Needing to take French I and French II to meet the French III requirement.) Please note that MYP Visual Art is a prerequisite for DP Art and MYP Theater is a requirement for DP Theater. These can be taken during the 9th or 10th grade. I hear a lot about this Personal Project? What is it? Our students complete the Personal Project through their MYP English II courses. You will learn more about the Personal Project during your MYP English II class. If you're interested in learning more before then, check out the MPHS Personal Project webpage. |
